Windsurfing

YDSC is simply the best windsurfing venue in the area. It’s very big and being at 1000′ (300m) altitude, the wind is nearly always blowing a good force or two stronger than elsewhere.

In almost all wind directions the potential for straight line blasting and fun manoeuvres is huge, and in all directions but a straight southerly, the winds are usually clean and steady. In a strong westerly, there’s a superb 1 mile stretch of water upwind which allows some significant waves to build up for easy jumping. Loops and all manner of aerial trickery have been a regular feature from some of our experts!

The less daring have great fun chop-hopping, riding the swells and just blasting. In gentler conditions there’s plenty of room for beginners and intermediates to get going or practice their skills and there’s always the wonderful scenery to admire.

Access is easy with plenty of room for parking and rigging near the water, we even have a dedicated launching ramp / walkway for windsurfers! Grimwith is a safe venue, with a safety boat on the water during usual club opening times. At most other times club members (but not day visitors) can ‘buddy sail’. So whenever there’s wind someone will probably be out there. Join us and it could be you!
